We will base our fly-in at The Birches Resort which is located on the western shore of beautiful Moosehead Lake Near Rockwood Maine. Moosehead Lake is the largest mountain freshwater lake in the eastern US with 400 miles of shoreline. The owner of this classic old-style lakeside Maine resort has kindly offered to host us and has blocked off a number of cabins in order to accommodate our AirCam group. When you contact them to book your accommodations, let them know you are part of the Lockwood Aviation / AirCam group. Don’t wait! We expect the rooms and cabins to go quickly.

The Birches has its own seaplane ramp as well as a sheltered marina where float equipped AirCams can be moored. Here you will also find 91 octane unleaded fuel. Your AirCam does not have floats? That’s no problem, you can fly into The Birches grass strip which is nearby. Greenville also has an airport with avgas available. Greenville Muni 3B1. We will begin our fly-in on Tuesday, September 3rd and plan to depart on Sunday, September 8th. Rooms at The Birches are available beginning in the afternoon on Monday September 2nd.

During the week we will plan day trips to various scenic locations such as Bar Harbor as weather allows. In the case of Bar Harbor we will organize ground transport from KBHB into town from the airport. There will be trips for AirCams with and without floats. Friday and Saturday will be dedicated to visiting the Greenville International Seaplane Fly-In which is one of the best seaplane fly-ins in the country. We will assist with ground transportation from The Birches to the seaplane fly-in on Friday and Saturday for those who need it.

  2. How to best fly low level in an AirCam safely and legally.
  3. AirCam flap upgrade. Hands on demonstration on what is new and how to inspect and upgrade your flaps.

The Birches is known for having one of the best restaurants in the region. Here you will find casual dining at its best with a classic stone fireplace and rustic bar for end of the day drinks with friends. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. We expect many of our participants will gather for breakfast and especially dinner.

If you don’t own an AirCam yet, your AirCam is still under construction, or you plan to fly in without your AirCam (West coast AirCam owners we understand) there are commercial flights into Bangor International (BGR). Bangor also has rental cars available and is only 1 hour and 30 minute drive to Greenville. Greenville to The Birches is another 30 minutes by car.

A second option is Portland International (PWM). Portland is approximately a 3-hour drive to Greenville. Add an additional 30 minute to drive from Greenville to The Birches.

We will have a technician on site to help with minor repairs and oil changes. Please let us know if you anticipate needing an oil change when you register for the event. Oil changes should be performed every 50 hours when running 100LL more than 30% of the time. We typically use 100LL when flying cross country with an AirCam.

Join us for the entire week or just a few days but don’t wait till you can judge the weather forecast to book your accommodations, as this will likely leave you with no place to stay. We will have fun even if we have days when the weather is not conducive to flying!

For those super busy folks who would like to have their AirCam at the fly-in but don’t have time to get it up there, consider having it flown up and prepositioned early. Contact Ferry Pilot Pat Bulger 781-864-9418
