Why Are Used Aircams Sooooo Expensive?

Post by teecee »

I get that Aircams look like they really are a superior ultralight and that they are probably awesome to fly. They have two engines instead of just one and look amazing but I still have a hard time wrapping my head around the asking price of at least $250,000 USD for most of the used ones I see out there. I fly an IFR certified light twin Cessna with partial glass panel that has a range of 1100NM and a useful loaf of 1650# and it would sell for far less than an Aircam. I could get a really nice used Challenger on floats for $60K CAD. Not the same I know but... Is it because the Aircams are owner built and there is just so much work that goes into them? Are they that hard to come by? Am I missing something???

Are there any of these located on southern Ontario Canada? Perhaps I need a ride in one so I can understand fully what is going on here...

Once you fly in one you'll realize why they are worth every penny. The kits are ultra complete and the Rotax powerplants are not cheap.
I'm in Ontario. Let me know if you want to go for a ride in one. Mine is on amphibs and is the most fun airplane I've ever flown.
