Wing wrinkles

Share what's on your mind.

We have reached the point in our construction process where we pull the wing envelopes into place. We have secured the fabric per Lockwood instructions on the first wing section; however, we have 3-4 small fabric wrinkles located where the fabric covers the rear spar at the wingtip bow. I am a perfectionist and hate to leave the fabric with any wrinkles (even though I have inspected several AirCams that have such wrinkles). Does anyone have a recommendation of what we might do to get rid of those wrinkles? We're ready to remove the fabric and try it again, but .....

I was told by Lockwood that they changed the wing material a few years ago and it's now stiffer than before, making it even harder to remove all the wrinkles. I doubt that starting over and pulling the fabric tighter would help, but don't know for sure. I was told by a very experienced builder that his wings never have any wrinkles. Though the wing fabric is pre-shrunk,he uses heat from an iron, as you did when covering the control surfaces. I experimented with that on mine and did get a few wrinkles to improve. I didn't want to ruin the fabric with too much heat so I didn't try too hard.
